Careers and internships

Careers at AEI

At AEI you build the protocol stacks, firmware and automation software that run machines, devices and silicon in harsh and safety-critical environments. Engineering is the core of the team, with marketing, sales and administration working alongside it and interns in every division. See the roles open now and apply.

What you'd build

Why work at AEI?

You would build protocol stacks, embedded firmware and automation software that run industrial machines and stay in service for a decade. For the principles behind why we do what we do, take a look at our philosophy page.

  • Your code runs a machine

Our customers are device manufacturers, OEMs and silicon vendors. The code runs PLCs, drives and production lines, so a 20 µs slip in a cycle budget shows up on the line.

  • Depth in one domain

About half of our work comes from repeat, long-term customers, so engineers stay on one domain (EtherCAT, a silicon family, real-time Linux) long enough to master it.

  • The whole project

In a small team you read the standard, bring up the board, discuss the design with the customer and write the handover.

  • A senior engineer beside you

New joiners and interns start on a real-life industrial project with a senior engineer alongside them.

Culture

Life at AEI

Teams here are small, so each engineer owns a subsystem, shares what they know and sets aside time to learn and build a passion project.

  1. Learn and create

New standards arrive constantly in this field, and reading them is part of the job. Engineers pick up the next protocol or silicon family ahead of customer demand. We encourage creative thinking, whether in the solutions we build or in expressing it through artistic, cultural and technical hobbies. Take a look at our Embedded World demo of a solution our team built.

  2. Plan your day, own your work

Every member of the team owns a subsystem from design to delivery, and talks directly to the people using the solution. You plan your own day, both your build time and your free time.

  3. A team that takes decisions

We work to guidelines, and the team makes the decisions. An idea from a new team member or a fresher can reach a customer without waiting for sign-off. We aim for a diverse environment that values the different perspectives across the team.

  4. Collaborate and share

Teams help each other reach their goals. Joint sessions, reviews, pairing on task plans and written handovers spread specialist knowledge and bring new members up to speed.

  5. Giving back

We work with universities on training and upskilling, and we recruit from them. Our team also leads and volunteers in social welfare activities.
